In-Home Support Services

What is the Mission of In-Home Support Services?

The mission of the In-Home Support program is to give parents or caregivers the skills needed to prevent out of home placements.

What are our objectives?

Our objectives are to:

  • Develop effective parenting strategies to assist parents and caregivers in parenting children with developmental disabilities
  • Provide direct services to children with developmental disabilities allowing them to control their behaviors, as needed
  • Provide short term respite care giving family members a break from the demands of the child with disabilities, as needed
  • Share resources as needed
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies serving the family

What is the eligibility criteria?

  • Children, ages 3-16, with disabilities including learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation and other developmental disabilities and their families or foster families are eligible for services
  • Families who reside in the following Wisconsin counties are eligible for services: La Crosse, Vernon, Buffalo, Juneau, Jackson, Monroe, Trempealeau, Eau Claire and Houston County in Minnesota
  • Minors will not be served without parent or guardian knowledge

What are the rights of the client?

  • All family members have the right to be treated with respect and dignity.
  • Family members have the right to be equal partners in planning home based interventions
  • All records are kept confidential
  • Families have the right to receive services without regard to age, race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry or disability

What are our fees?

  • There is a fee for service and also a fee for families living 10+ miles or more from Catholic Charities La Crosse. Contact our case manager in the La Crosse office for a more detailed cost of this service.
  • Fees may be reduced based upon income or extraordinary needs for private pay clients only or if grant monies are available. This will be determined by the Director on a case by case basis.

Working with Schools and Agencies

We assist schools and agencies by providing quality services to students with developmental disabilities.

What are our goals and objectives?

To provide quality consultative services to students in public schools or other community settings maintaining less restrictive placements

  • Educate teachers and support staff on the educational and behavioral needs of students with developmental disabilities
  • Work individually with students with developmental disabilities, providing quality programming
  • Provide training to staff and teachers on disability related topics

What is the eligibility criteria?

  • Any public or private school or agency may request consultative services for a youth with developmental disabilities
  • Students/youth with disabilities including learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation and other developmental disabilities will be considered for service
  • Any public or private school or agency may request training on any topic related to disability
  • Consultative services are available to the tri-state area (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa).

What are the rights of the client?

  • All students or youth, teachers and agency members have the right to be treated with respect and dignity.
  • They have the right to be actively involved in treatment planning when appropriate.
  • All materials will be kept confidential.
  • Teachers and agency members have access to all records.
  • Parents may have access to records if it will benefit programming
  • Schools and agencies have the right to receive services without regard to age, race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry or disability
